The girls varsity basketball team fell far behind opponent Stone Ridge in a 62-29 loss last Monday. This loss puts the girls basketball team at 3-4 so far.
The game was marked mostly by a large margin of points that Stone Ridge scored each and every quarter. At the end of the first quarter. Stone Ridge had scored 19 points while Wakefield only scored 10. The game continue through a moderate pattern of Stone Ridge consistently scoring large numbers while Wakefield was usually behind by 5 baskets. However, by the start of the third quarter, the Warriors simply could not put up the same number of points. What can only be attributed to exhaustion, the Warriors soon fell to only 5 points in each of the last two quarters.
Stone Ridge has a very strong basketball team that has players that can consistently score many points in a short amount of time. Wakefield on the other hand, has good players, but is unable to take advantage of many opportunities to score when the chance option should show itself.

Boys Come Close Against Maret
Last Monday, the Wakefield boy's Varsity basketball team, fell to Maret in a very close 33-36. This loss currently puts the boys basketball team at a 1-5 season. Last year at this time the boys were 5-1, a very different number to the players and the fans.
The first quarter the Warriors started off with an early lead of the game as they ended the quarter with a seven point lead against their opponents. However, Maret managed to take the lead during the second quarter and lead the Warriors throughout the rest of the game. Both teams were able to cancel each others offense out with a strong defense leaving the numbers of points scored very low.
The one thing that stands out about Maret most is the fact that they had really only two players who could put the ball up from anywhere around the court. Maret's lead scorers were Tre Bowens with 12 points and Ryan Simpson with 10. However the rest of the players on Maret barely were able to score 5 points during the course of the game. Wakefield however has a good combination of players that can score and can put up roughly the same number of points that Maret's standout players can.
One thing is for certain though. This season is going to be a complete difference than the one that the Warriors had last year.

Wakefield cruises past the Raiders
after trailing eight to sixteen at the end of the first quarter, it looked as though the Wakefield girl's basketball team was ainst the Jeb Stuart and gogoing to lose Tuesday's game and go 2-3. However, the girls made a terrific come from behind second quarter which ultimately led to them winning aginast the Raiders.
This week's star players are Alison Butler and Nia Liberty. The sophomore,Butler, put up a total of fourteen points with one basket, two three-pointers, and six out of seven freethrows made. Together she has a total of fifty-four points for the entire season. While the sophomoreme ,Liberty, put up six baskets and one freethrow during this game giving her a total thirty-four points for the season so far.
With stand out players like these on the girl's basketball team, we can almost predict that the girls will end this season with a winning record and prove to everyone that girls can go just as hard as the boys do.

This is It
Boy, I sure hope I don't get sued by the Jackson family for using that title. Anyway, like the title says, this is it. This week, the Wakefield Warriors ended their season on one of the best games I've ever seen us play in. Unlike most of the games this season, marked by many mistakes both offensively and defensively, the Warriors seemed to preform flawlessly against Mount Vernon. Wakefield came in with a grudge against Mount Vernon due to last seasons loss to the Majors that would have sent the Warriors into the playoffs. Truth be told, we were pissed and we had a score to settle. And we damn sure did just that.
The whole game had every spectator from either side of the field in complete suspense, as it was touchdown followed by touchdown for both teams. This game was the game that every player thinks of when the term "Friday Nightlights" is said. Not a single jersey was clean, people were hobbling off the field from injuries, players were screaming and taunting each other. It was magnificent.
The Wakefield offensive drive was started once again by senior breakout wide receiver, Aaron Hunt, with a forty-five yard pass reception, from quarterback ,Drew Powell, for a touchdown, giving Hunt his sixth touchdown reception this year and surpassing five hundred reception yards, this had broken the records in Wakefield history for most yards. Sadly however, Aaron was injured upon impact with the ground and was done for the rest of the game and the season. But the loss of Aaron Hunt did not hold the Warriors back. In fact, it did the very opposite. With their main receiver out of the game, the Warriors reverted back to the powerful running game that they're most feared for. And their running backs certainly did not fail to complete. Senior running backs, Boubacar Diallo and Devon "Day-Day" Hill, both rushed for eighty-five yards each. Letting the Majors know, that the old Wakefield, who gave up when their backs were up against the wall and all hope seemed lost, was dead and gone, and wasn't coming back. No matter how hard Mount Vernon begged for it to happen.
However, the Majors came back from half-time and put up twenty-two points in the third quarter. With the clock running down, Wakefield's head coach, Keith Powell, needed to think of something fast. And he did. From Mount Vernon's nine yard line, Wakefield junior running back, Terry Davis, scored on a nine yard rush. This put the Warriors back in the lead. But, suspense grew as the Majors were given possession of the ball with a little more than two minutes and twenty seconds left in the game. But just like we did every game this season, the Wakefield defense didn't give up. With an interception by junior linebacker, Victor Leavell, all hopes of a Major victory were crushed with the impact of Leavell's cleats on the ground after an amazing catch. Two words can be used to describe the end of the game and the end of the season. Sweet Victory.

Warriors Fail to Complete on Offense
Once again, the Wakefield Warriors prove that their offense is unable to complete under any kind of pressure when the time calls for it. This Friday, the Warriors lost to long-time rival, Washington and Lee, giving Lee the win that they needed to make it into the playoffs again this year.
With an offensive line that seems to simply disintegrate when rushed by the defensive line, Warrior quarterback ,Drew Powell, cannot get a pass or a handoff finished without feeling the pressure, and panicing. This is basically the summary of the Warrior's entire offense this season.
This being said, it's time to get on to the game. The Warriors lost again in a 28-6 final, that puts the Warriors at 0-9 this season. With all hopes of making the playoffs this season being destroyed, many of the Warriors just want this season to be over. This poor attitude may be one of the main causes as for why the Warriors continue to lose so many of their games. With their last game this Friday against Mount Vernon, who is equally as bad as the Warriors, this team needs to win in order to make this season end in at least one positive note.

Warriors Face the Generals
This Friday, the Wakefield Warriors are home for their final home game against long time rival Washington-Lee in a game that's sure to be one of the most exciting games to watch. For whoever it is that your rooting for, you sure to be on the edge of your seat all game long.
The Warriors come in with a grudge for the Generals after last year's nail biter of a game that wasn't decided until the very end with a missed Wakefield field goal. This game remained in the minds of the Warriors all season and now their ready to take this win from a long hated rival.
But it's not only the shared hatred between each of the teams that will make this game worth the five dollars you spend to watch. This game will also be made thrilling by the fact that it will pin brother against brother. Come to see Wakefield linebacker/running back Boubacar Diallo battle against W-L defensive back/running back brother Moussa Diallo. Along with the intense show of a blood battle between these two phenominal players, watch as Aaron Hunt continues his breakout season and attempts to get past ten touchdowns before his senior year is up.

Warriors Fall to the Patriots
There's probably a reason why the Yorktown Patriots chose to play against Wakefield for their homecoming game. They thought it would be an easy win. You know, the kind where you know that you're gonna win, you plan on putting up fifty on the board, and put in your J.V. team so that they stop complaining about never getting any burn in a Varsity game, and just plan on completey humiliating your opponents all while looking good on your home turf. However, it was everything but that. The Warrior's defense was able to limit them to only twenty-four points in the first half of the game. And, Yorktown quarterback, Sam Nottingham, fumbled the ball after being hit by Warriors linebacker, Devon Hill, and allowed defensive end, Thomas Rice, to recover the ball and return it for a defensive touchdown for the Warriors, giving Rice his second defensive touchdown of the season. Unfortunately, fate was working in favor of the Patriots. Something that seems to occur in many of the Warrior's games as well as many of their seasons.
You'd think that with such an impressive defense the Warrior's offense would look just as good, if not better. However, the Warriors still were unable to do anything to prevent the Patriots from gaining the lead and winning the game in an embarrasing 51-18 loss.
Their were many mistakes that the Warrior's offense had made. Several of which were the numerous fumbles by Drew Powell due to poor snapping from sophomore center, Muktaru Jalloh. The Warrior's offensive line was blown backwards from the ball on many plays which often lead to Powell being rushed and forced to throw a poor or incomplete pass. This game was pretty much a perfect summary of how the Warrior's season has gone so far. A lack of execution and the failure to accomplish even the most basic of things is what's holding our team back from being an exceptional football team. And something needs to happen desperately for any hope of even getting a win this season.
